Course Description |
This course is an introduction to atmospheric structure, elementary thermodynamics in synoptic meteorology. It includes theory
and practice of weather analysis and forecasting, surface and upper air analysis, fronts and wave cyclones, satellite meteorology,
sounding analysis, thermodynamic diagram, cross sections, forecasting. The emphasis is on factors important in short term
weather changes, including stability/instability and atmospheric motion. Smaller-scale phenomena such as thunderstorms,
tornadoes, lake-effect snows, and gravity waves will be covered. We limit ourselves to the midlatitudes. The processes studied
include those that have an influence on the generation and decay of weather systems. |
