Course Description |
Introduction to rock mechanics. Stress and strain. Stress and strain transformations, In-situ stress determination methods.
Rock physical properties. Rock mechanical properties. Stereographic projections. Testing of rocks in laboratory environment
and evaluation of design parameters. Rock classification methods. Stress analysis around underground openings and design
criteria. Ground stress analysis around room & pillar and longwall mine openings. Subsidence over tunnels and underground
mines. Slope stability analysis in open pit mines. Rock bursts. Numerical evaluation methods in rock mechanics. Up to date
design software and practical examples in computer laboratories. Excel spreadsheet evaluations. |
