Course Description |
The application areas of geological engineering and description of engineering geology. The role of engineering geology in
planning and projecting. Engineering properties of rocks and soils. The effects of physical weathering and alterations on
engineering characteristics of rocks. Classifications of discontinuities according to theirs engineering properties and
importance of discontinuities in engineering applications. Mechanisms, classification, environmental effects and investigation
of mass movements. Stabilities of natural slopes and cut-slopes, mass movement mitigation. Engineering geological studies
for the planning and design of dams. Underground excavations, rock mass classifications for the design and excavation of
tunnels. Engineering geological works before and during tunnel constructions. The boundary conditions for foundation
design. Geotechnical investigation boreholes, bearing capacity, settlement, swelling and heave problems. Environmental
