Course Description |
Restoration of cultural assets requires different approaches specific to building types and construction systems. Within the scope
of the course, the components of cultural property are explained and the long history of Istanbul is summarized by emphasizing
the assets that could survive. Starting from the archaeological heritage, the conservation problems and restoration of timber and
masonry structures are mentioned, and one of the sub-headings of the architectural conservation area, e.g. adaptive re-use is
discussed.
The reasons for the inclusion of cultural assets in the UNESCO List of World Heritage in Danger are discussed and two restoration
sites are visited. |
